On June 9, the Party History Learning and Education Series of the Party Branch of Western Returned Scholars Foundation (WRSF) came to Wangfujing Pedestrian Street in Beijing, where the group visited the "100 Years of People - A Great Exhibition of Images of Chinese People's Lives (1921-2021)", which carries the memories of the Chinese people's lives for a century. The theme of this exhibition, " 100 Years of People", presents the major theme of the centenary of the Communist Party of China in a simple way that is close to people's livelihood. The exhibition features 323 works in four sections: “Time Brings AGreat Change to the World”, “Time Flies", “A Hundred Families and a Hundred Blessings" and "Everlasting Love".

Starting from the birth of the Communist Party of China (CPC), “Time Brings AGreat Change to the World”selects four time periods throughout the past century to present similar contents or scenes in common people's livesin a comparable layout, which is intuitive and clear. The “Time Flies" section takes the century since the founding of the Communist Party of China as its timeline, and selects 100 outstanding photographs with distinctive characteristics of the times to show the great leap of Chinese society from standing up, getting rich to getting strong.In the “A Hundred Families and a Hundred Blessings" section, tens of thousands of submissions were selected to create "family portraits", which symbolise the prosperity of the Chinese nation through the linking of millions of Chinese families.In the "EverlastingLove" section, the wedding photos range from robes and capes to suits and wedding dresses, to endless creativity, bearing witness to love and the changes in Chinese society over the past century.

During their tour, Zhang Rujie, vice chair of the board of WRSF, introduced to the group the meaningful historyin combination withphotoswith a sense of time, such as handing out steamed buns to the families who joined the army, and the resumption of the college entrance examination.Zhang Rujie said, "On July 1, 2021, CPCwill celebrate its 100th anniversary. 100 years of the CPCis the 100 years ofthe centenary of staying true to our original aspiration,remembering the mission and continuing to strive; the 100 years of liberating minds, seeking truth from facts and improving in keepingwith the times; the 100 years of making history, laying the foundation and exploring the future."

Zhang Rujie pointed out that the exhibition of images of Chinese people's lives is of great significance. Through the hundreds of real images of different periods, we can see how the Communist Party saved the people in distress, led the people from standing up, to getting rich, and then to getting strong, and drove away the old China when people were living in poverty for the new China that is independent, free, peaceful and prosper.

Zhang Rujie stressed that in addition to the visit and study of the exhibition, WRSF will also carry out the "Centenary anniversary, I would like to say to the Party..." activities, the centennial birthday of the CPC, do not forget where you started, keep in mind the mission and follow the lead of the Party forever.

After seeing theexhibition, Li Haiju,executive deputy secretary general of WRSF, also shared her feelings with thegroup."When I visited the exhibition, I could see through the photos of people's lives the great changes that have taken place in China over the past century, and the radical changes in people's lives. New China has created two miracles, rapid economic development and social stability, and has leaped to become the second largest economy in the world from a situation of poverty. The people's lives have gone from inadequate food and clothing to complete prosperity, and they have completely rid themselves of poverty as a whole, which is not only a historical record, but also a comprehensive, systematic, panoramic and vivid picture of the Party's achievements.”

Li Haiju pointed out that WRSF’s CPC history educationactivity has reached the stage of "learning history to increase confidence", which has also enabled everyone to further understand the Party's century-long efforts and great achievements, and why we have theconfidence and where our confidence comes from.

The young members of the WRSF expressed their feelings after their visit to theexhibition. From the birth of the CPC to the current year, from black and white to colour, from rags to suits and dresses, from sallow and emaciated to glowing with health.In the 100 years between the birth of the CPC and its development, and the creation of the new China, the life of the Chinese people has also changed from hardship to prosperity, and Chinese society has also changed from backwardness to strength.

In the past 100 years, China has achieved the modernisation and industrialisation that took Western countries hundreds of years to achieve. As the new generation in China, we should cherish the achievements of our predecessors, give full play to our initiative and add to the building of our country to the best of our ability.

Without the Communist Party, there would be no new China. This is not just a slogan, but a truth that has come out of centuries of practice in China.
